"My Own Door"

Accommodation will be provided that will facilitate four individuals in the 16 to 24 age grouping to co-exist and prepare for a full life beyond the services of ‘My Own Door.’ 

Housing will be designed to encourage the residents to live independently while co-existing with each other, take responsible actions, make the right decisions, gain knowledge and experience and prepare for the day they embrace exclusive independent living. The ‘My Own Door’ service will help educate, teach life skills and encourage the adoption of life skills. We create a safe environment for 16 - 24-year olds to grow to be more independent.

The tasks we all undertake on a daily or regular basis are foreign to this grouping who have neither full nor part independent living skills or the experience of such. Registering and making appointments with doctors and dentists is something which many are not familiar with. Indeed, many have not mastered nor disciplined in home cleaning and hygiene tasks.

The young person will become self-reliant and self-dependent allowing them to move to meaningful independent living, included in society and capable of making life decisions.

Life skills are taught and encouraged – including but not exclusive behaviours.

• Food preparation – cooking – diets

• Registering with essential services – Doctors, Dentists, Social services, Etc.

• Arranging and attending appointments

• Emotional and mental well being

• Banking and Budgeting, and more!

This is a system to take individuals from their current status through semi-independent living in preparation for full self-sufficient living.
